Meet Fiona — the voice of Unicurio.

She wants to say hi 👋🏼

Fiona has been dreaming of backpacking the world since she was 14, when her parents famously recount a verbal declaration that she would live and work as an au pair in Southern France. That timeline has long passed but the spirit remains.

She has had the fortune to experience life-changing trips because she played her cards right and fought the fears & doubts. Travel is also a privilege and she cannot forget that.

  • August 2017 — First solo trip to San Francisco, California

  • November 2017 — Shot documentaries for non-profits on study abroad to India

  • August 2018 — Studied abroad in Budapest and partied like hell across Europe

  • June 2019 — Celebrated her graduation with a 6-week solo trip to Japan & South Korea

And these are only the origin stories and the trips that felt like monumental milestones. Since then, she has been on the adventure of a lifetime, navigating the balance of work + play.

Unicurio has been stuck in her head as an idea for years. Travel blogs and social media posts have become an essential research tool when planning for a trip or finding inspiration for the next one.

But the reality is that she is a busy person and you are too! While she has her own story, you've come here to discover your own. And you're fully capable of searching for background information on the Internet. So let's cut the fluff and get right to the highlights.

Pssst, come closer — one more thing. Fiona has agonized over every detail of Unicurio in the same way she plans her travels. This is more than just a space to share her stories, it’s an expression of her character. She is really a sensitive soul, this is a space of empathy and kindness.

Thank you for visiting 💕

Fiona is a multifaceted individual.

She is a data scientist in her day job — experienced in visualizations, machine learning algorithms, big data optimization, and storytelling. Education is a high priority for her and has earned (1) a Bachelors of Science in Data Science from DePaul University and (2) a Masters of Science in Business Analytics from Georgetown University. She passed the AWS Machine Learning Specialty Exam (MLS-C01) in June 2023, days before jetting off to Taiwan for a three-week vacation.

Every day, she writes code to process, explore, and model data in Python. She won’t give you too much detail as her job may not like that. Lucky for her, she has lots of PTO and a flexible remote work agreement.

Fiona likes to challenge what is expected of her.

“Never a boring moment”

— a friend

“I never know where she is”

— her mom

“Non-stop photo taking”

— a Hinge-fling

“Packs an efficient carry-on”

— every TSA agent

Fiona lives by these words.

“Do the things that you are afraid of doing so that you are no longer afraid”

The House on Mango Street (1983) by Sandra Cisneros

Fiona has three travel values.

Don’t just visit — become a true wanderer by fostering connections with locals, savoring authentic flavors, and experiencing the heartbeat of each destination in a way that transcends traditional sightseeing.

Immerse Yourself in the Culture

Get to talking in the local language! Remember that respect is key so listen attentively, remain humble, and opt for the slow charm of walking everywhere.

Always Meet the Locals

Embrace new flavors that tantalize the taste buds and gain an intimate understanding of cultural nuances based on popular dishes and food customs.
